We all know them, not all of them love them: fairy tales. The stories, which mix reality and fantasy, give space to creativity and also allow us to escape to worlds very similar to ours. The title Little Goody Two Shoes follows the same line. However, what can be expected is not a happy love story, but rather a narrative embellished with mysterious characters and horror aspects that are unlikely to be seen twice. Below you will find out what the game’s great strengths are and why the beginning of the game is particularly slow.

The game’s story begins in typical magical fairy tale fashion. One day, protagonist Elise finds a pair of red shoes buried in her garden, which she immediately puts on. Furthermore, a mysterious person named Rozenmarine appears, whom Elise takes care of and welcomes. Otherwise, Elise goes about her day and helps locals with their daily needs. Of course, this doesn’t happen without ulterior motives, as Elise needs the residents’ money to buy bread or pretzels to replenish her energy and satisfy her hunger.
Both are attributes that gradually decrease as a result of daily tasks. Not only does this happen automatically throughout the day, but each task also drains Elise’s strength. These tasks are small minigames that are very fun and varied, although in essence they offer very simple gameplay. In addition, Elise can also spend time with some residents and experience events, with dates playing a special role. You have the opportunity to sacrifice an hour of the day to spend time with female characters, which can turn into little love stories. As exciting as these moments can be, Elise’s nocturnal excursions are equally frightening.

There she roams the surrounding forests with surreal creatures and environments, which brings with it a touch of atmospheric horror. Above all, you must keep an eye on your energy bar, as monsters will knock it down faster than you would like. The on-screen death is definitely one of the game’s recurring moments, but it also adds a huge appeal. Because save points are distributed across the board, you typically only need to replay smaller sections of the game. Nights not only offers all kinds of fears to try out, but also smaller puzzles to master. These fit very well into the harmonious scenario and always demand a lot from you.
Now you can imagine what has been described as the basic build offered to you as a player. What you do with it is largely up to you. There is no way to avoid some part-time jobs as Elise needs food. It’s up to you to spend the remaining time on dates, earning more money, or completing other tasks. However, there is also the difficulty of residents starting to ask questions and you should attract as little attention as possible so that they do not suspect that something is wrong with you. Then you’ll see one of the game’s ten different endings faster than you’d like.
An impressive mix of genres
The overall package of daily tasks and nightly excursions is intensely captivating, which is why I’d like to emphasize the special nature of the game at this point. Once you embark on the adventure, it’s hard to get out of it again. But the beginning of the game is very slow due to the long conversations and explanations, so I really had to advance because I already discovered before my test that there is a great game at its core. If you get past this point, Elise’s story will certainly enchant you.
Another big hurdle, however, is the English text on the screen. Some of them are not easy to understand with basic knowledge, so some interesting dialogues go unnoticed. Otherwise, you can’t complain about the technical implementation, which is particularly impressive in the big scenes. If these small and large criticisms don’t bother you, you’ll have an adventure lasting around ten hours, which can keep you glued to the screen for even longer thanks to the different endings.
