Passed away completely unexpectedly: Davide Renne
The world of Italian fashion mourns the death of Davide Renne. The designer, who succeeded Jeremy Scott as Moschino’s creative director on November 1, has died unexpectedly. Moschino owner Massimo Ferretti struggles to find the words. Former Gucci creative director Alessandro Michele, who worked with Renne for eight years, remembers his friend with an emotional post.
It’s a shock for the world of Italian fashion. Davide Renne, appointed creative director of Moschino in mid-October, has died. The designer, who was born in Follonica, Tuscany, in 1977, closed his eyes forever in Milan, on November 10th.

The death came as a complete surprise to everyone. The designer joined Moschino on November 1, succeeding Jeremy Scott, who left after a decade. Renne was scheduled to debut at Milan Fashion Week in February with the autumn/winter 2024/25 collection.
Upon taking the role, Renne referred to the fashion brand’s founder, Franco Moschino. Renne said he gave his studio the nickname “sala giochi”, “game room”: “This phrase resonates deeply with me. What fashion and therefore the Maison Moschino can achieve with its enormous power must be achieved with playfulness, do it with joy. With a desire to discover and experiment. Let’s have fun.”

Gucci anchors: This was probably the most exciting debut in Milan
Strong debut from Sabato de Sarno. The rush and expectations were immense. The luxury house’s new creative director was convincing.
The designer had a poetic streak. In his inaugural message he spoke of being born in the “Tyrrhenian Sea”. It is a “magical” part of the Mediterranean if we follow Greek mythology, wrote Renne: “The four winds of Aiolos felt at home in its rocky walls”. Aiolos is the Greek god of wind.
Renne was very well known and popular in the Italian creative scene. The graduate of the Polimoda fashion school in Florence gained experience with Alessandro Dell’Acqua. She worked at Gucci for nearly two decades, where she helped design women’s clothing collections. Most recently, she was Chief Womenswear Designer for the megabrand, which belongs to the Kering Group.
Former Gucci creative director Alessandro Michele described Renne, with whom he worked for eight years at Gucci, as his “dear friend” and “inseparable brother” in an Instagram post. “What an extraordinary and unforgettable trip we had!”, wrote Michele on the social network. “How much laughter and unbridled joy we shared with each other! How many unrealistic dreams we chased! And how tightly we hugged each other, our hearts racing.”

Gucci-like – strong debut from Peter Hawkings to Tom Ford
This is the season for designer debuts at Milan Fashion Week. The most anticipated was certainly the debut of Sabato de Sarno for Gucci. The second and much anticipated premiere was presented by Peter Hawkings to Tom Ford the night before.
Michele wrote that Renne was one of the “most talented designers” he had ever met: “You were an irreplaceable part of my unstable little family. It was our family that we built with all the love in this world. (…) I wish you so much I can hug you and tell you once again that everything is okay.”
